Nigeria imports 9000MT of Stockfish from Norway

THE Norwegian Seafood Council has disclosed that Nigeria imported more than 9,000 metric tonnes of stockfish from Norway in 2017, valued at $51.6 million, making it the largest importer of Norwegian stockfish.

The council noted that the trade relationship dated back to 1890 and pelagic fish, herring, mackerei, Tusk and Saithe have been the main exports
In a statement released by the council at the maiden edition of the Norwegian Seafood Festival held in Lagos recently, it stated that the mackerei variety takes the largest share of the Norwegian export to Nigeria of over 16,000MT.
The statement read: “Norway is one of the world’s leading exporters of seafood. In 2017, Norway exported 2.5 million metric tonnes of seafood to over 146 countries around the world. All this seafood made up a total value of $10.9 billion, making Norway the second largest seafood exporter in the world behind China.
“Norway’s extraordinary geographical location and its clear, cold waters stretching along 101,000km coastline provide the perfect conditions for getting the best out of all that the sea has to offer.”

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho has singled out Liverpool left-back, Andrew Robertson for praise after his side were defeated 3-1 at Ansfield. Liverpool ran out 3-1 winners in the big game. It was goals from Sadio Mane and Xherdan Shaqiri that finished United off at Anfield. However, Mourinho made special mention of Robertson after the game. The Scotland international was superb once again for Liverpool. Robertson is now one of the first names on manager Jurgen Klopp’s team sheet, and Mourinho was suitably impressed by him today as well. New minimum wage: What Ngige said after labour leaders boycotted meeting with FG

Sen. Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment has said organised labour would attend a meeting with the federal government on the contentious new minimum wage on Monday. He spoke Sunday night in Abuja after labour leaders failed to show up for the scheduled meeting. “They are not here today and they gave excuse why they are not here”, Ngige told newsmen. “We also want to say that we do not support the State governments’ N22,500 proposal and we have also said so. “We also have our own figure and the Tripartite Committee meeting will look at it and the outcome of the Monday’s meeting will be a consensual, I am sure of that, ” he said. Mr Joe Ajaero, President, United Labour Congress (ULC) told NAN that members of the organised labour got the invitation to the meeting late. “But hopefully, we will be around for tomorrow’s (Monday) meeting by 11a.m,” he said.
